How Reel Places Works
From viral video to real-world adventure in three simple steps
Paste a Video Link
Copy the URL of any travel, food, or adventure video from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook. Our tool works with short clips, full vlogs, reels, and even photo carousels.
AI Scans the Video
Our AI analyzes the video frame by frame, reading on-screen text like titles and captions. It also transcribes the audio to catch any locations the creator mentions out loud, and checks the video's subtitle track.
Explore Real Places
You get a list of every location mentioned in the video, complete with photos, addresses, and direct Google Maps links. Save them to folders, plan routes, and start exploring.
Supported Platforms
Extract locations from all the major social media platforms
YouTube
Works with standard videos, YouTube Shorts, and live streams. Perfect for travel vlogs, "Top 10 Places" lists, city guides, food tours, and any video where creators mention locations.
TikTok
Analyze trending TikTok videos and discover the exact restaurants, beaches, hiking trails, and hidden gems that creators are showcasing. Works with standard TikToks and longer videos.
Supports Instagram Reels, regular video posts, and multi-image carousel posts. Each slide in a carousel is analyzed separately to catch every location across all images.
Extract location information from Facebook videos, including travel groups, food blogger pages, and shared travel content. Works with public video posts and reels.

Powerful Features
Everything you need to go from video to real-world exploration
AI Vision Analysis
Our AI reads text that appears on screen in the video - titles, captions, location tags, lower thirds, and any text overlays that mention a place name. This catches locations that are shown but never spoken.
Audio Transcription
The video's audio is transcribed and analyzed for location mentions. When a creator says "We're heading to the Grand Canyon" or "This restaurant in downtown Tokyo," our AI catches it.
Caption Analysis
Video subtitles and closed captions are parsed for location names. This is especially useful for videos in other languages or when audio quality is poor.
Custom Folders
Organize your discovered locations into folders like "Japan Trip 2025," "Best Brunch Spots," or "Weekend Hikes." Keep everything organized and easy to find when you're ready to explore.
Route Planning
When a video mentions multiple locations, view them all on a route in Google Maps. Plan the most efficient path between all the places so you can visit them in a single trip.
Works on Any Device
Use Reel Places on your phone, tablet, or computer. The app is designed to work perfectly on any screen size, and you can even install it as an app on your home screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about finding places from videos
What types of videos work best with Reel Places?
Reel Places works best with travel vlogs, food tours, "Top 10 Places" lists, city guides, hiking and adventure videos, and any video where the creator mentions specific place names. The key is that the location needs to be mentioned somewhere in the video - either spoken aloud, shown as text on screen, or included in captions. Pure scenery videos without any location names won't produce results.
How accurate is the location detection?
Our AI is highly accurate at extracting location names that are explicitly mentioned in videos. We use Google's Gemini AI to read on-screen text and transcribe audio, then cross-reference the results. However, the accuracy depends on the video quality and how clearly locations are mentioned. We always recommend verifying locations on Google Maps before visiting, especially for remote or lesser-known spots.
Does Reel Places work with videos in other languages?
Yes! Our AI can process videos in many languages. The Gemini AI model supports multilingual text recognition and audio transcription. However, results may be more accurate for widely spoken languages like English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Chinese. If the video has English subtitles, those will also be analyzed for location mentions.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free users get 10 video analyses per month, which is great for occasional use. The first 2 searches are completely ad-free, and searches 3 through 10 include a brief ad. Pro subscribers ($4.99/month or $39.99/year) get unlimited searches with zero ads, plus access to all features including multi-stop route planning.
Why can't Reel Places find locations in my video?
There are a few reasons this might happen: (1) The video doesn't explicitly mention any location names - our AI looks for place names in text, speech, and captions, so purely visual videos won't work. (2) The video might be private or restricted. (3) The audio quality might be too poor for transcription. (4) For Instagram, you may need to set up cookies in Settings to access the content. Try a different video to test if the tool is working correctly.
Can I use Reel Places for Instagram Stories or private accounts?
Reel Places works with public Instagram posts, Reels, and carousel posts. For some Instagram content, you'll need to upload your browser cookies through the Settings page (click the gear icon). This lets our tool access the content on your behalf. Private accounts and expired Stories are not supported.
How does the route planning feature work?
When a video mentions multiple locations, a "View Route" button appears above your results. Clicking it opens Google Maps with all the locations plotted as stops in a multi-destination trip. Google Maps will then optimize the route for you, showing driving directions, estimated travel times, and the best order to visit each place.
Is my data private and secure?
Yes. We don't store the videos you analyze - we only process them temporarily to extract location information. Your saved locations are stored securely in our database. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers. You can read our full Privacy Policy for more details.
Can I cancel my Pro subscription anytime?
Absolutely. You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time through the "Manage Subscription" button in the pricing panel. Your Pro access will continue until the end of your current billing period, and you won't be charged again. No cancellation fees, no hassle.
What happens to my saved locations if I cancel Pro?
Your saved locations and folders are kept regardless of your subscription status. Even if you downgrade from Pro to Free, all your saved places remain accessible. You'll just be limited to 10 new video analyses per month on the free plan.
Tips for Best Results
Get the most out of every video analysis
Choose Videos with Clear Mentions
Videos where the creator names specific places - like "This is the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle" - will always give the best results. List-style videos ("10 Best Beaches in Greece") are goldmines for location extraction.
Look for On-Screen Text
Many creators add location names as text overlays or in their video titles. Our AI reads all on-screen text, so videos with clear captions and title cards tend to produce the most complete results.
Audio Matters
If a creator narrates their experience and mentions place names, our transcription will catch those mentions. Videos with clear audio and minimal background music work best for audio-based location detection.
Organize with Folders
Create folders for different trips, cuisines, or activity types. When you find great spots across multiple videos, saving them to organized folders makes it easy to plan your adventures later.
